Renowned Queensland designer Daniel Lightfoot, a heavyweight in the Australian fashion industry since the 1980s, has died.
His ex-wife of eight years, Susie Lightfoot, announced on Instagram that the award-winning designer passed away on Christmas Day.
he was 58 years old.

“It is with great sadness that I share the tragic news that Daniel Lightfoot passed away on Christmas Day,” she wrote.
“He is very much loved by his beautiful daughter Paris (the light of his life) and his close family Alison, Kenny, Elizabeth, Ben and Amy.
“Daniel has touched the lives of many through his incredible talent, craftsmanship and vision of beauty.
“He transformed simple fabrics into something truly magical, making the women he dressed shine like diamonds.”
Lightfoot rose to fame in 1985 when she designed an award-winning outfit for Miss Australia’s Miss World contestant Angelina Nasso.
At just 20 years old, he founded his own brand and won numerous RAQ (Retailer’s Association Queensland) awards, two Australian Fashion Awards and Queensland’s Best Designer title.
Lightfoot has become famous for its glamorous evening wear and special occasion wear.
Inducted into the Queensland Hall of Fame in 1992, his designs were stocked by David Jones and worn by the likes of Liza Minnelli.
“From his glorious fashion days, we know how much his friends, colleagues and clients all miss him,” said Susie Lightfoot.
“He’s known for his wicked sense of humor and sharp wit, his appreciation for French Champaign (sic), his love of diamonds and sparkles, yellow roses, happy parties, expensive cars, and everyone watching.” will always be fondly remembered for having danced like that (because they were!!)
“Rest in peace, beautiful Daniel.
“You are now safe and can dress up all these beautiful angels in your creations and be the man you want to be again in heaven.”
Lightfoot’s daughter Paris also paid tribute to her father.
“Late last night, heaven won the most fashionable and hilarious angel,” she wrote.
“I love you daddy forever and I will always be your princess.”
Daniel Lightfoot and champion diver Susie were married from 1990 to 1998 and remained close even after their separation, often attending social events together.
Lightfoot’s cause of death has not yet been announced.
