Diversity Consignment offers apparel for every style.
After falling in love with the artist-focused community of Jamaica Plains, owner Ian Drake opened a shop at 713 Center St called DVSTY Consignment.
Drake supports sustainable methods of reusing and recycling clothing and a free shopping experience regardless of personal identity.
“Any piece of clothing, anyone should and can wear it,” Drake said. .”
How does delegation work?
If you are not familiar with consignment, In this process, the shipper (which could be you!) just brings in the clothing they need to sell and sells it in the store. If sold, the shipper receives a portion of the price at the time of sale.
Anyone can bring in items to be exhibited, and the staff will sort the listed items from the listed items within 30 days. Within this 30 days, the shipper will receive his 40% of items under $100 and his 50% of items over $100. Payment is made after 30 days have passed, and unsold items can be picked up by the shipper.
“Consignment is a true, person-to-person clothing recycling method,” said Drake. “Consignment is the most sustainable way to recycle clothing.”
He said his personal favorite aspect is being able to discover hidden gems in the wide variety of clothing that people bring. He also enjoys building relationships with his customers.
More than Just Diversity Consignment Clothing
In addition to clothing, the consignment store also sells artwork from locals who want to showcase their work. Designers and artists can bring in their own work to display and sell in stores, or include a bio for customers to learn more about the artist.
“I think giving artists a platform is the most important part of the whole concept,” said Drake. “If you put in enough time and effort to basically build a brand around yourself, someone has the potential to support themselves.”
“We may see someone’s custom item, we may even buy a custom item, but we may not actually know who that person is,” says Drake. says Mr. “I have always been very interested in getting to know people more deeply than just their work. Who they are and what their personalities are..”
