Some big chains are already offering discounts, but most wait until Saturday, January 7, when the traditional New Year’s sale begins.
The Trade Act 2012 establishes two main sales periods per year, but individual retailers have the flexibility to decide exactly when they start and end.
January sales typically offer up to 70% off select items, but there were warnings in the fall that the current economic climate could mean fewer big bargains.
