NEW YORK, NY, United States, Jan. 22, 2023 /EINpresswire.com/ — LadyCat fashion designer Alexandra Nyman is thrilled to announce her third New York Fashion Week showcase. Entitled “Marry Me Betty,” the collection is a commentary on intergenerational trauma and Mayor Adams’ criticism of Kendra’s expansion of the law.
“We are taking extreme actions that take away basic human rights,” said Matt Kudish, CEO of the New York chapter of the National Psychiatric Alliance, in a statement.
Kendra’s Law should be invoked as a last resort, not as a city-wide mental health solution. This fundamental misunderstanding of the impact of Kendra’s Law or AOT on increasing access to mental health care has historically resulted in significant racial disparities across the state. Minorities are more likely to be subject to court orders to force treatment or medication, according to the NYS Department of Mental Health. And people who have been previously hospitalized and have no history of violence are often targets of Kendra’s Law.
“We believe this law hinders quality mental health care by creating fear of coercive treatment and undermining public confidence in the health care system. , is one of the most traumatic things an individual can experience,” Nyman spoke passionately about the issue when he remarked on the mayor’s current Kendra law expansion.
“My family had multiple forced hospitalizations due to experiencing mental health crises while in college, and facing police rather than mental health professionals did not help the situation. However, the situation worsened.
“People struggling with behavioral health problems face marginalization and stigma that can lead to serious consequences. But in reality they are more likely to be victims of crime and excessive use of force by the police than to cause harm,” said LadyCat founder. says Creative Director Alexandra Nyman.
About her collection, Alexandra Nyman said: One of her earliest memories of her mother is her two men in white coats coming to her house to take her grandmother out of her house for electroconvulsive therapy. I saw the In the 1960s, Bipolar I was classified as manic-depressive, and unfortunately the common treatment was her ECT.
“This event caused generational trauma in my family and made my mother reluctant to seek mental health help as an adult. and continued to seek help despite being abused by the system.”
Nyman will showcase at Break Free on Saturday, February 11th. All proceeds from this showcase will go to the Break Free Foundation. I go to a rehabilitation center.
The Break Free NYFW Designer Showcase acts as an awareness campaign, listening as attendees discuss their experiences with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders, and their impact on individuals in recovery. Also introduced Ashley Alt of VALT, Duriki Apparel and Zephyr, and Kimberly Blair of NAMI NYC gave a speech on the runway announcing her new Co-occurring Disorder Support her group and recruiting for a new Co-occurring Disorder . Disability Subcommittee.
Nyman hopes her message of being free from generational trauma and continuing to seek mental health treatment will resonate with others. It urges members of the New York State Legislature to pass the Daniel Act, which treats it as a public health issue, not a threat, and it places mental health professionals as first responders to the problem of mental health crises.
