LEXINGTON, Kentucky (WTVQ) – Fayette County Democrats continue their much-needed annual clothing movement in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day this weekend.
The group collects new and rarely used winter coats, parkas, sweaters, gloves, socks and blankets. You will also need toiletries such as shaving cream, toothbrush, shampoo and diapers.
Donations are sent to Hope Center and The Nest for distribution to those in need.
Organizers say their goal is to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most in their communities by carrying on King’s legacy.
“Martin Luther King wanted to grow up in a world where nobody needed. Everyone dreamed. And without a coat, it’s hard to achieve. I think is just one example of how you can help the community and follow his spirit, what a great community Lexington is, how great the Lexington heart and people are, and how we reach out to all I want to show that I can help people.
Clothing drives run from 12:00pm to 4:00pm on Sundays and from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Mondays. Items can be dropped off at 431 South Broadway.
