After LaMelo ball hit the Charlotte Hornets’ 3, the Grizzlies inbounded the ball, but it rolled along the court and no one was near except Morant, who knew the rulebook well.
The referee did not start the eight-second infraction countdown until he touched the ball, but the game clock was still running.
So Morant didn’t even bother to touch the live ball and wasted nearly half an hour in the game without any penalty.

Once Morant was on the ball, the Hornets coach was adamant that someone approach him. Hornets’ Terry Rozier finally made the switch on defense, so Morant finally got it.
