From the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 to the explosive Harry and Meghan documentary coming to Netflix, it’s been a big year for the royal family.
But one thing that hasn’t changed is Kate Middleton’s impeccable sense of style.
The Princess of Wales has to follow royal conventions, but she can add her own flair to any outfit with balloon sleeves, exaggerated collars, and quirky pops of color.
Over the years, Kate’s style has evolved with her. She now has a list of her favorite designers from whom you can ask for custom pieces.
She has a penchant for British brands such as Catherine Walker and Alexander McQueen, but is occasionally surprised by high street purchases and vintage finds.
With the new year just around the corner, we’ve rounded up our favorite Kate Middleton looks from 2022. This sets the agenda when it comes to fashion.
Visiting Lancashire in January, Kate wowed in a cashmere camel coat by Massimo Dutti paired with knee-high Saint Laurent suede boots worth £1,329.
The top and skirt are in neutral tones and are by Iris and Ink.
Known for her impressive coat collection, the then Duchess of Cambridge wore this chic Sportmax coat on a trip to the Blaenavon Heritage Centre.
Like the late Queen, Kate prefers bright color blocking for big royal events.
At the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in March, her bright blue outfit consisted of a £3,000 Catherine Walker coat and a custom Sean Barrett hat.
Of course, for St. Patrick’s Day, the princess wore Irish green, but switched things up with military details and a fun shamrock brooch.
This stunning frock coat is by London-based designer Laura Greene, and the Mayfair Pillarbox Hat is made by hatmakers at Rock and Company.
Kate and Wills’ Caribbean tour had so many amazing outfits that it was hard to choose, but the Jenny Packham dress she wore when she arrived in Belize really stood out.
Another show-stopper was this Vampire’s Wife dress, which sold out shortly after Princess of Wales was painted.
At £1,650, it was the perfect sparkly gown for a ceremony held at the Mayan ruins of Cahalpech in Belize.
The royal family knows they’ll be the center of attention at certain events, and Kate stopped by the Easter church service held at St. George’s Chapel.
This powder blue court dress by Emilia Wickstead was accompanied by a Jane Taylor headband and complimentary blue Emmy London heels.
Katherine actively turned heads at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in May wearing a Roland Mouret Lamble gown.
A Bardot neckline accentuated her slender shoulders, and the monochrome color scheme kept the look classic and timeless.
We love this pink power suit. Katherine wore it when hosting roundtables with government ministers and her sector early in her years.
It was by one of her favorite fashion houses, Alexander McQueen, and inspired many similar options on the High Street.
This Alessandra Rich dress paired with a Sally Ann Provins Boater hat gave us some serious Julia Roberts with Pretty Woman vibes.
Kate wore this ensemble to Ascot and made the nation’s best-dressed list.
In September, Queen Elizabeth II died, and the royal family gathered at Westminster Abbey for the monarch’s state funeral.
As usual, the princess kept her look understated and put together, wearing a traditional black Alexander McQueen court dress.
Even when she’s dressed casually, Kate embraces her signature style, like when she visited Northern Ireland in October.
A master of complementary colors, she paired a Winser London silk bow blouse with navy heels and trousers and a powder blue coat.
This look embodies Kate Middleton’s aesthetic, returning to her preferred overall camel hue.
For her official visit to Scarborough, she wore a MAX&Co wool coat and a Gabriella Hearst cashmere-blend turtleneck dress (naturally) with matching shoes and accessories.
MAX&Co ‘Longrun’ Wool Coat in Camel – £460 – Gabriela Hearst ‘Betti’ Cashmere Blend Turtleneck Dress Camel £1,000
One of Katherine’s go-to designers is Emilia Wickstead. Looking at this Miles houndstooth dress she wore to Harvard University in Massachusetts, it’s easy to see why.
For the Earthshot Awards, the royals borrowed a dress from Herr and made it green in various ways.
The Solace London gown looks stunning with emerald jewelery and is still available for rent to help preserve the environment.
While everyone loved the crimson coat Kate wore to this month’s Together at Christmas Carol Service, we couldn’t help but highlight Kate’s outfit while promoting the event.
In festive red sequins, it’s a needle and thread Aurora dress.
Last but not least, Kate’s choice when she attended a Christmas service at Sandringham last week saw her return to her military-inspired aesthetic.
The dramatic khaki frock coat she chose for church was by Alexander McQueen, and leather gloves and slouch suede boots added a touch of country charm to the “fit.”
