Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama have revived their iconic fashion collaboration for a new generation with a campaign featuring Gisele Bündchen.
The supermodel poses for Steven Meisel’s lens in a Carine Roitfeld-style campaign that immediately evokes the collaboration of collaborators in the early 2000s. The collection, which will be released in 2023, features Louis Vuitton’s brown leather monogram handbag printed all over with Kusama’s colorful signature polka dots in shades of red, yellow, white, green and blue. As you can see, Bündchen’s image was shot in black and white and features her timeless look in stitched jeans, overlaid with the collection’s oversized polka-dot print.
The campaign, which also stars Anok Yai and Fei Fei Sun, also includes two takes on Vuitton’s signature top-handle Capucines handbag. One black leather style is cast in the collection’s multicolored polka her dots, while the second style is in shiny silver metallic leather topped with rounded silver studs. It’s unclear how long the line will last, but a caption in an image posted on Vuitton’s Instagram suggests the full “Chapter 2” collection will be released in January 2023.
The collaborative partnership between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama is a well-known partnership in the fashion world, debuting in 2012 under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs. The 2023 Louis Vuitton and Kusama collaboration, first seen in the brand’s 2023 Cruise collection by Nicolas Ghesquière, debuts ten years after the first collaboration, marking the partnership as a perfect moment for each. Whether that hints at expanded collaboration, or even “Chapter 3,” remains to be seen.
