India-based PDS Limited (PDS), a global fashion infrastructure company, has announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art wash factory at Progress Apparels Bangladesh Ltd, one of PDS’ manufacturing subsidiaries in Bangladesh. The wash plant was set up in partnership and with funding from the Netherlands-based Good Fashion Fund.
Progress Apparels is based in Adamjee EPZ, Dhaka Bangladesh, with a production unit of 270,000 sq ft and manufacturing approximately 900,000 pieces per month. The facility manufactures bottoms (formal and casual), schoolwear, shorts and skirts for leading retail brands around the world. Progress Apparels is 100% RCS Accord, CT PAT, SMETA, WRAP, and OEKO-TEX certified, as well as a LEED Gold certified green manufacturing facility. Manufacturing facility operations are further enhanced by extensive design facilities that have made Progress Apparels a full-service design-to-delivery partner for retailers and brands, his PDS said in a media release.
The new wash plant installed at Progress Apparels has the capacity to wash 6 million garments per year. Machinery in the wash shop includes 2 washers, 3 dryers and 2 hydro generators with inverters. The facility has enabled Progress Apparels to manage 90% of its current wash requirements in-house, leading to savings in transportation costs and production turnaround times, and improved operational efficiencies.
