Saint Laurent has leased the building that protects the legendary designer’s original haute couture house at 30 bis Rue Spontini in Paris, a source told WWD.
I wasn’t exactly sure what the Kering-owned fashion house was going to do with the historic venue.
Officials at Saint Laurent could not be reached for comment.
Yves Saint Laurent’s move to Rue Spontini was front-page news of WWD on November 22, 1961, and the article read, “This house was built by the famous French caricaturist Jean-Louis, who died in 1931. It belonged to Foran.”
He also noted that the facility needed to be refurbished prior to the couturier’s debut presentation on January 29, 1962.

For over a decade, Rue Spontini has become synonymous with Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture business, but he ventured further into ready-to-wear with the opening of the Rive Gauche boutique.

Saint Laurent retired in 2002 and closed the couture house. At this time, the building on rue Marceau was reconstituted into the Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent Foundation. Since 2017, it has been the site of the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris.
