Shimano has released the second generation of their S-Phyre and Aerolite eyewear models.
The glasses can be used as cycling sunglasses, but the lenses can be switched between one of six options. Shimano says this gives riders options for everything from “very sunny days” to “dim light.”
Regardless of the amount of light, all lenses use Shimano’s “Ridescape” technology. Like the Prizm lenses in the best Oakley sunglasses, the technology is said to make visibility and detail that would otherwise be washed out “more defined, vibrant and vivid.”
Following Shimano’s naming convention, S-Phyre glass sits at the top of the range. The Aerolite is billed as glasses at an “affordable price for everyday riders.”
The glasses have an RX clip so you can convert them into prescription cycling glasses.
Shimano S-Phyre Eyewear
The Shimano S-Phyre Eyewear glasses are said to feature straight upper rims with aerodynamic temples, following the speed-boosting claims we’ve seen with the POC Propel glasses.
Shimano says the temples have a non-slip pattern for a secure fit and comfort.
The interchangeable lens is fixed with a magnet. Shimano says this makes changing and cleaning lenses quick and easy.
The glasses come with one of Shimano’s six lenses and an extra clear lens.
Shimano says the glasses are suitable for road, trail and gravel riding.
It has a claimed weight of 29.3g and is available in 5 colors.
S-Phyre Eyewear glasses cost £169.99 / $220. International prices have not yet been confirmed.
Shimano Aerolite Eyewear

Aerolite Eyewear glasses have been used in World Cup cyclocross races this season and will likely be used at the cyclocross world championships starting this Friday.
Shimano says the glasses “live at the intersection of function and fashion,” and the half-rim design doesn’t block vision while also providing a “stylish look.”
The glasses come with Photochromic Gray lenses or Ridescape HC lenses, said to enhance contrast and sharpen surface details.
The glasses come in 5 colors and weigh 26g.
Aerolite Eyewear glasses are priced at £69.99 / $70 / AU$99.95 for Ridescape HC lenses and $100 / AU$149.95 for photochromic gray lenses. UK prices for the Photochromic Gray model have not yet been confirmed.
