“Yellowstone” influenced Western fashion trends among suburban fans of the hit series.
Many of the show’s viewers live far from the Montana meadows where “Yellowstone” is set, and dress like the series’ rancher characters.
New Yorker Ryan Capalvo told The Wall Street Journal, “I definitely have a very Western style in my wardrobe.
Capalvo, a social worker in Dobbs Ferry, New York, said he was a big fan of “Yellowstone” and began emulating the character’s style shortly after the show debuted in 2018.

“Once the show started, I was obsessed with cowboy boots,” he told the WSJ, adding that he now has five pairs.
Capalvo told the outlet that her love for the show led to her throwing a bachelorette party in Montana.
“I forced all my friends who haven’t seen much of the show to come with me and pretend to be cowboys for five days,” he said.
“Yellowstone” is a neo-Western drama that follows the powerful John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who owns the largest ranch in Montana, and his family. The show, which recently wrapped the first half of its fifth season, is the most-watched scripted series on television.

Johnson worked with Ruth E. Carter, who was the show’s costume designer for the first season, to create individual styles for each character.

Johnson said that styles modeled after the cowboy hats worn by fan favorites John and Rip often sell out.
Stetson, a well-known cowboy hat maker, has also seen a significant increase in demand. Tyler Torreson, the company’s vice president of marketing, told the WSJ:

Torreson said that Western styles were already on the rise before “Yellowstone” premiered, but that the show “helped shed light on something that had been there all along.”
Influenced by the show, Stetson hired Luke Grimes, who plays Keith Dutton, as the face of the fragrance line. In 2021, denim company Wrangler will launch a line of “Yellowstone” inspired apparel. The company has unveiled his new November 2022 collection.

Costner recently won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for Yellowstone. This was the first Golden Globe nomination the show received. “Yellowstone” is scheduled to air the second part of the fifth season this summer.
